When visitors ask where Gisborne's "main hotel" is, chances are they're talking about the Emerald.

In fact it's Gisborne's only full-service hotel.

Located at the lower end of Gladstone Road, opposite the Taruheru River and within easy walking distance of both the CBD and the Inner Harbour restaurant precinct, the Emerald Hotel occupies one of the city's most practical locations.

This isn't a hidden boutique retreat tucked away down a side street. The Emerald is a large, established hotel that has been welcoming visitors to Gisborne for decades.

Whether you're in town for business, a conference, a sporting event, a family gathering, or simply exploring the region, it offers the sort of convenience that becomes more appreciated the longer you stay.

One of the hotel's biggest advantages is that much of central Gisborne can be reached on foot. The city's cafés, shops and services are only a few minutes away, while the growing collection of restaurants and bars around the Inner Harbour are close enough that the car can often remain parked for the evening.

Some rooms enjoy pleasant views across the Taruheru River, while others overlook different parts of the property and surrounding city. If a river view is important, it's worth checking room options when booking.

The Emerald also remains one of Gisborne's most significant conference and business accommodation venues. While many visitors arrive with holiday plans, plenty are here for meetings, projects and events. Fortunately, this is Gisborne, where even the most serious work trip is never very far from a beach, a vineyard, or an excuse to finish the day a little earlier than intended.

The GisborneNZ Take

If you're looking for a centrally located hotel with easy access to the CBD, the Inner Harbour dining precinct, and the riverfront walkway, the Emerald remains one of Gisborne's most established accommodation options.

It's not trying to be the newest hotel in town. Its appeal lies in location, scale, convenience and the simple fact that it puts much of Gisborne within walking distance.
