There comes a point in every website's life when someone asks a question for the 437th time.
"What's the best beach in Gisborne?"
"What should I do this weekend?"
"Where can I get a decent coffee?"
"How far is Rere Rockslide?"
"What is a pie sandwich and should I be concerned?"
After careful consideration, several cups of coffee, and at least one discussion that probably lasted longer than it needed to, GisborneNZ has officially launched its own AI-powered assistant:
Gizzy AI Chat.
That's right.
Gisborne now has an artificial intelligence dedicated to helping visitors explore the city, discover local attractions, and answer the sort of questions that normally require interrogating a local over a flat white.
What Can Gizzy AI Chat Do?
Quite a lot, actually.
Ask it about beaches.
Ask it about cafés.
Ask it about things to do.
Ask it where to watch the sunrise.
Ask it for ideas on a rainy day.
Ask it for a weekend itinerary.
Ask it which bakery deserves your immediate attention.
Ask it why everyone in Gisborne seems suspiciously relaxed.
It will do its best to help.
What Can't Gizzy AI Chat Do?
Let's be realistic.
It cannot predict surf conditions six months in advance.
It cannot guarantee you'll catch a fish.
It cannot explain every local nickname.
It cannot settle arguments about which beach is best.
And despite several attempts, it still refuses to reveal the secret location of Gisborne's best pie sandwich.
Some knowledge remains sacred.
Is It Smarter Than A Local?
Absolutely not.
No artificial intelligence can compete with someone who has lived here for a lifetime, knows three generations of the same family, and can identify a beach simply by looking at a grain of sand.
Think of Gizzy AI Chat as a helpful visitor information centre that never closes and never gets tired of answering questions.
Why Build It?
Because Gisborne is full of interesting things to see, do, eat, drink, walk, swim, photograph, surf, and occasionally get lost trying to find.
As GisborneNZ continues to grow, we wanted a way for visitors to get quick answers without needing to hunt through dozens of articles.
Now they can simply ask.
The goal is simple:
Less searching.
More exploring.
A Small Warning
Like most Gisborne locals, Gizzy AI Chat means well.
But every now and then it may wander slightly off course.
Ask a simple question about beaches and it might become unexpectedly enthusiastic about fishing.
Ask for directions and there's a small chance you'll also receive a recommendation for coffee, a surf break, and somebody's favourite pie shop.
Occasionally it may answer with complete confidence despite possessing approximately the same level of certainty as a bloke standing outside the dairy saying, "Yeah, I reckon that's probably right."
To be fair, that describes a surprising amount of local knowledge.
If Gizzy AI Chat ever suggests swimming to Auckland, surfing in a car park, hiking through someone's lounge, or taking life advice from a seagull, please apply common sense before proceeding.
Remember, artificial intelligence is still learning.
Much like the average Gisborne local after their third beer at Smash Palace.
If you spot something questionable, let us know.
Unlike some locals, Gizzy AI Chat is actually capable of admitting it was wrong.
Give It A Try
The next time you're browsing GisborneNZ and wondering where to go, what to do, or where to find that perfect Gisborne view, look for Gizzy AI Chat.
It might not know everything.
But it's already spent more time thinking about Gisborne than most Aucklanders.
Which is a pretty good start.
